Homework has always been a hot topic at our school. Since we have families from so many different countries and cultures, it is difficult to find a common ground in terms of the expectations for the kind and amount of homework children receive.

Our school is trying out a new model for homework, which aims to get the family involved in what we are learning at school. It is thematic, conceptual and inquiry based. I've tried my best to make it easy and accessible for parents. So, I've posted it all on our classroom website. Take a look if you'd like:

Spring Fling 50 Followers Linky Party!!

I joined this linky party for TpT products!

Teaching Abroad

I've read a few topics on the TpT sellers forum about teachers who are interested in teaching outside their home country. They are often looking to hear from experience and to get some advice. In 13 years as a teacher, I've taught in public, private and semi-private schools in 4 countries and 3 continents. I've had to be very ADAPTABLE.

If anyone is interested in working and living abroad, that is my biggest piece of advice. Learn the language, meet the people (marry one if you like!) and respect the fact that things are done differently everywhere you go.

All you teachers who have worked or are currently working abroad, what would be your best advice?

Valentine's Day!

Our students had a great time with these valentines from Teach 123.

We decorated our own mailboxes and attached them to the backs of our chairs.

Our Classroom

Well, it's nothing fancy, but here's our classroom in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I am currently in a job-share position and I work 2 days a week. I'm curious if anyone else out there works part-time and shares a class with another teacher!
I've been working part-time for 2 years now and it's been a great experience. I've been able to be home more with my daughter, as well as stay in touch with my profession.

Here is our little reading corner:

Blog Posts Using iPhone Blogger App

This is so easy and fantastic. All I have to do in my classroom is use my iPhone to take photos of the things my students are doing. I can upload them as a post right away using the Blogger app on my phone. It makes keeping up with my classroom blog SO easy.

Data Analysis - Button Attributes!

Our class has started a new Math unit on Data Analysis. This was a fun activity. Students had to sort their buttons in 2 different ways with a partner.
I asked them to choose 2 attributes because most of them wanted to choose to sort by colour. When they finished sorting by colour, which was a good warm-up, they had to challenge themselves with something like texture.
We use the TERC Investigations series. This was a part of one of the lessons in unit 4. This series does not use Glyphs as part of data analysis. I'd like to make/find some good glyphs for my students!
