Chicky Bookmarks

We made some little chick bookmarks to sell for charity at our school's upcoming fair. They are made with fingerprints of yellow paint and then a black and orange sharpie.

Wood and Paper

We just finished the FOSS Wood and Paper unit. My students had a great time with the last few activities, which explored the many uses of paper.

Here, students had to open up boxes at the seams and trace the shape of the flat box.

We weaved paper.

The final project was to create a paper sculpture. My students had a LOT of fun using different paper materials in a creative way.

Fantastic Homework Projects

Once a month, we give a new "inquiry" project to our students as homework. We are currently studying wood and paper, so the inquiry project for March was to research how to find out how old a tree is. We also asked them to include any other interesting information they found along the way, because I always tell my students that the journey (and their thinking) is more important than the answer. They had to present their findings in a visual way. It's a great way to get families to do some research together at home. The results were fantastic! Here are a few:
